The glitz and the glam that these two brought are untouchable! I had the honor of saying goodbye to 2016 with Tom and Katie at their NYE wedding this past Saturday. You guys. When you think of a NYE wedding, this wedding is exactly what will come to your mind. It had everything; black sparkly bridesmaid dresses, champagne bottles that served as escort cards, nye horns and let's not forget the giant balloon drop when the clock struck midnight! It was so. much. fun. I loved the new year vibes through all the silver and black, but as you all know, my heart is in the details. So here we go; here's what made Katie and Tom's day one that I can't forget!
I always start my wedding coverage with the details. That's shooting your stationary, shoes, perfume, jewelry...etc. You get it. This honestly is one of my favorite parts of the day only because it happens when the buzz is at it's height. The girls are getting ready, the attire is quietly hanging with anticipation and I get to listen to the stories behind the little items I'm photographing. As I was going through each thing Katie had laid out for me, I realized that each piece really did have a story behind it. Her hand written note from her late father, the custom lit ring box that housed her engagement ring and her little ring box with her and Tom's names on them. Once Katie was dressed, she had a first look with her brother, who later would walk her down the aisle with her mom. This moment between them was so touching and raw. It was amazing to capture! We then moved on to the first look with her and Tom and we did this differently than normal first looks which I LOVED! Instead of your classic "tap on the shoulder" first look, we did an aisle reveal first look, as in, Katie walked down the aisle to Tom for a truly awesome first look!
As the day went on, so did pictures of Tom and Katie and their wedding party and family. Their ceremony was held in a gorgeously up-lighted tent at the Hyatt Lisle. Let me tell you: this was a romantic ceremony, and hilarious too! The tent was warm and cozy and dimly lit so that the uplighting shined. But guys. They had two hilarious moments in their ceremony that makes me kind of want to tell everyone about. First: they went unplugged. Meaning, everyone was to put their cell phones and cameras away. But before this happened, they announced that people would have an opportunity to take pics right away; during the MANNEQUIN CHALLENGE! Yes. They did the mannequin challenge at their ceremony before it kicked off! What a way to see out 2016. Then. During vows; Katie pulls out an accordion folded paper containing all of her vows. The crowd burst in laughter. It was great and kind of makes me want to scare my fiance with the same thing ;)
We then went on to reception where guests were greeted with an escort sign table containing personalized champagne bottles. The backdrop of this table included pictures of the couple in the shape of "2016." Katie really thought of everything! The ballroom was gorgeous with all of the decor but the best part ever, ever? The centerpieces of each table were two-tiered cakes. YES! Each table had their own cake! Katie and Tom didn't do the traditional cake cutting because why would they when there were literally over 15 cakes in the dang room!? If that wasn't enough, they had an enormous sweets table that had everything from donuts to strawberries to chocolate pianos. I mean. It didn't stop. No matter where you looked, the wedding was just amazing.
I really could keep going on but I have to get to the pictures. Congratulations to you two; here's to an amazing 2017 for all!
